A Childs Feelings.......

Memo From Your CHILD

When you make a promise to me, whether it be for a reward or a punishment, please keep it. I need to believe the things you say to me.
Understand that no matter what I say, I need rules. Please make sure I understand what the rules are and what will happen if I break them and then please follow through. Rules make me feel safe.
Please understand that getting your attention is one of the most important things in my world. I don't want you to ignore me. I like it better when you pay attention to me when I'm being good, but if you don't, I may try to get your attention by doing bad things.
Know that you're the center of my world and your words are very powerful. Please don't yell at me and call me bad names. If you call me stupid, I'll believe that I am. If you say I'm worthless, I'll believe that too. Every bad thing you say about me is like an acid drop on my soul.
Be consistent in your dealings with me. Inconsistency completely confuses and troubles me.
Show me that you love me. I don't need fancy gifts or expensive clothes, I do need your time and tenderness.
Don't be upset if once in a while I say, "I hate you." I really don't mean it. I say it when I'm frustrated or angry or tired or hungry or scared.
Please teach me that I'm not my behavior, Help me to know that my behavior may be unacceptable in a particular situation but that you always love me, Or when I do something very well, I need to know that you'll love me even if I don't do as well next time.
Please answer my questions. You may be tired, and I may ask many more than you think I should, but remember that's the way I learn things.
Dont be afraid to apologize to me, I'll respect you all the more for it and you'll be teaching me a very important lesson.
Please tell me the truth when I ask questions. I'm aware of much more than you may think I am. I need to feel safe to bring all my concerns and fears to you. I need to know you won't lie to me. I need to be able to trust you completely.
Please know that it doesn't matter how much you tell me. I'll do what you show me. I watch everything you say and do because I really want to be just like you when I grow up....
